Language teaching and knowledge in the Amazon: between shouting voices and the rising forest
The objective of the Congress of Basic Education Teachers in Language(s) and Literature of the Pan-Amazon (1st CLLIMAZ) is to promote dialogue among different professionals in the field, to think about language teaching beyond traditional grammar and the prestigious variants of the Portuguese Language, and above all, to propose teaching policies committed to ecology and sustainability, emphasizing social, ethnic, cultural, artistic, school inclusion, and regional differences. The 1st CLLIMAZ aims to bring together basic and higher education teachers, primarily from the (Pan)Amazon region, Brazil, and other borders, to discuss the teaching of language(s) and literatures as actions of human appreciation of individuals and their spatialities.
In its first edition, the event will take place at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), located in the city of Belém, the capital of the state of Pará and the host of COP30. The event will be held from September 24 to 27, 2024, focusing on the theme "Teaching and knowledge of languages in the Amazon: between Voices that shout and the forest that rises". CLLIMAZ aims to establish itself as a permanent event seeking to systematize a training that promotes the political and constant dialogue of university cultural and intellectual production with basic education and society, distinguishing itself by the effective commitment of basic and higher education to climate causes in defense of the Pan-Amazon and the world.
The 2nd LetrasVivaz - Meeting of Alumni from the Professional Master's Program in Letters at UFPA, in its second edition, will take place concurrently with the 1st CLLIMAZ. LETRASVIVAZ aims to enable the continued training of public elementary and basic education teachers as proposed by the National Network Professional Master's Program in Letters (composed of 42 public universities across all Brazilian regions, operating in 49 units, including the campuses of some institutions) - PROFLETRAS.
LETRASVIVAZ also seeks to give visibility to the research/dissertations of the alumni/teachers who graduated from the program; and finally, to foster interaction and continuous dialogue between this extensive network of the professional master's program - UFPA, its academic production, and the public education system. With this goal, the 2nd LETRASVIVAZ will have as its theme: "Ongoing teacher training in language teaching: commitment of basic and higher education, considering the university as an institution engaged in ongoing education in basic education in the Amazon".
